PROMISING mare Bamako Mali has had her career cut short by injury.
Following her gutsy third at Newcastle recently, Bamako Mali was discovered to have bowed a tendon in her nearside fore.
As such, connections have decided to retire the four-year-old with the view of breeding from her next season.
An Australian Pacing Gold purchase, which finished third in the rich Final, Bamako Mali will join the impressive broodmare line-up at Victoria’s Benstud.
“We bought her at the APG Sale and she did a great job for us,” Benstud’s Craig Judd said. “Unfortunately these things happen in racing and we are looking forward to the next stage of her career as a broodmare.”
Although a suitable stallion has yet to be selected for the daughter of Art Major, Judd revealed some of the names on the ‘short list.’
“We are still undecided as this only happened a couple of weeks ago, but we’re looking along the lines of Somebeachsomewhere, American Ideal or Rock N Roll Heaven,” Judd said.
Prepared by Belinda McCarthy, Bamako Mali was triumphant in the Group One New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge and Group Two Pink Bonnet.
Bamako Mali heads to the breeding barn with 13 wins and 13 placings from 33 starts for earnings of $259,309.

In the same race MARYLEBONE ran a solid 2nd , she out of DAZED & CONFUSED the winner of $177k Marylebone is a ½ sister to GLORY DAZE & ROLL WITH IT. BENDIGO on the 5th was a day to remember . SOMEBEACH SHADOW ran a sensational 2nd in his 1st start and looks to have a future . The enigmatic and often frustrating HADRIANS PHOENIX trotted perfectly and was very unlucky not to bring home the chocolates for new trainer Bradley Barnes .The FINLEY butchers shifted the bold striding gelding over to the BARNES stable after the success they’ve enjoyed with VERUKTE PHOENIX a sister to HADRIANS and it looks like both horse and trainer are happy .ROCKSTAR ANGEL is the 4th winner of her dam ARTY ALICE a ½ sister to CHRISTIAN CULLEN . WICKED NIGHTS a beautiful ART MAJOR ½ sister to FLAMING FLUTTER $623K was desperately unlucky to not record her 1st win after doing all the work out of gate 7 to lead at Cobram , running a solid 1.57 she was pipped on the post. (KATIE) has improved lengths since joining WAYNE POTTER who’s horses are flying.
ROCKABELLA STARZ was the 6th winner of 100% producer BELLA AURORA , if she ends up nearly as good as older sister BELLA’S DELIGHT. ROB AUBER and his loyal owners are going to have a lot of fun with her.

MILLY PEREZ ½ sister CHARISSA TEE won her 1st race on the same weekend.
Pictured here is my gorgeous daughter EILISH with her favourite horse HECTIC. I was asked to clean the heavily pregnant and often cranky mare for EILISH because she wanted pictures with her before she headed off to her DEBUTANTE BALL .Doesn’t she look amazing? Eilish looks ok too.

Well the Benstud crew were off to Strathfieldsaye on the 27th of September, for the annual Harness racing Charity Football/Netball day, who were proudly supporting the Debra,CAH &NF-CTF foundations. They put on a great day with netball, football matches & plenty of activities to keep the kiddies entertained.
Benstud filled their very own netball team this year, who had a great day out making it into the semi finals,to only lose by two. With a mix of younger and slightly older players,it was a great sight to see, mums playing with their daughters. we all enjoyed a great day out, raising money for the kids & the Debra foundation which is very close to the Benstud family.
Benstud Netball Team.
I cant forget to mention the exceptional three players (of various ages) we had represent in the Football match's and also the legends match. The boys played great and had lots of fun,not to mention their may have been some sore bodies for the next couple of days.
